About Me
Hello! My name is Elisa and I am a M.Eng. candidate in Biomedical Engineering at Boston University, driven by my passion towards designing medical devices that meaningfully improve patient care. I aspire to bridge engineering innovation with real clinical needs by creating solutions that while technically robust, are deeply human-centered and accessible to the patients they serve.
With a background in Biology and Public Health, hands-on clinical experience, and an early pursuit of the pre-medical path, I bring a strong understanding of both the science and the lived experience of healthcare. My experiences working directly with patients have built the foundation for my passion in engineering and continues to shape my aspiration to create impactful, patient-focused medical devices.
Selected Work
Developing voltage-controlled lens eyewear (LCD, LCoS, electrochromic) with integrated PPG monitoring to mitigate photosensitive seizure triggers in real time. Arduino-based prototypes validated attenuation of 3–30 Hz seizure-provoking light stimuli.
Designed and fabricated a fully functional mechanical pinball machine using CAD, laser cutting, CNC milling, and manual machining. Assembled various mechanical components that met tight dimensional tolerances with precision.
Designed and built a 7-joint acrylic truss under strict material constraints and load requirements using MATLAB structural modeling. Iteratively optimized geometry to improve predicted load capacity from 38 oz to 53.07 oz. Final structure held 55.38 oz with accurate prediction of the critical buckling member.
Interactive lighting installation for a Lutron design competition. A 3D-printed translucent PETG anatomical heart pulses in real time with a user's heartbeat via PPG sensing. An internal LED diffuses light to the beat, an LCD displays live BPM, and a speaker mimics hospital heart monitor audio. Electronics housed in a custom 3D-printed enclosure. Light, data, and sound unified into one immersive biomedical experience.
